We are just doing shallow work everyday

As we head into a completely new future, I am afraid most of the work happening at the companies and startups is moving from deep work to shallow work.

There are less number of specialists and more number of managers. Everyone is managing someone but honestly very few of these people are going beyond sending mails to become human routers of information and just avoid all distractions to think.

I am not refering to those 15 minutes breaks where you are just distracting yourself to fool your own self to go away from your laptop screen and continuing the same task.

I am refering to actually thinking, actual creation of strategy.

Whenever someone actually does some deep work, it is regarded either as complete waste of time or great growth initiative which needs to turn into meetings, Google sheets, presentations, frameworks, roi indicator draft, social media post, one pager draft for all the stakeholders to refer and many more logistical nightmares which require you to distract yourself from really thinking.

Then when should one think? That’s when the work starts creeping into your personal life, you start ignoring some logistical tasks to squeeze in the thinking time, or you naturally start to avoid the things which are important for the world but are distracting you from the real thinking.

The problem with deep work is it needs a certain condition nad current world of work does not allow it.
